What does VAS mean?

As such its just an abbreviation. However interestingly 'Vas' from the Latin 'Vasa' is 'a vessel that contains' it is the root of such words as 'vase' and 'vessel'. The 'Vital Art Studio' can therefore be seen as the 'vessel' that encompasses the output of John career and interests.

How did VAS 'Life Arts' come about?

VAS 'Life Arts' is the result of Johns three decades experience in the Esoteric Eastern Arts, and as a Qualified Instructor for over 15 years. Like other similar disciplines these 'Arts of Life' are practices that develop abundant health and well being, lessen the ravages of the ageing process, foster greater athletic, martial or physical ability, and with advanced proficiency even profound wisdom and insight. They are paths of 'Self Discovery', vitality, and excellence. John continues to explore his individual path through these practices with his exceptional Teachers in the UK and abroad. To argument his understanding and teaching he is also studying for a Diploma in Chinese Medical Theory.

His classes at present {2006} offer tuition from Beginners to Advanced in the below subjects with other being added in due course.

Meditation {from Kundalini Yoga, Buddhist and Taoist practices}
Yoga {Kundalini and Chinese - 'Tao Yin'}
Tai Chi Chaun {'Tai Ji Quan'. Old and New Styles. 'Chen Style' to be available at a later date}
Chi Kung {'Qigong'. Including 'Neigong' Internal Strength, 'Health' and 'Martial Styles', and
   'Internal Alchemy' Cultivation practices}

Students are welcome to explore their own studies within these various fields and may choose to specialise in one or more of their choice. They are also encouraged to seek instruction with Johns Teachers to facilitate their progress.

What is the Vital Arts Studio {VAS} web site?

This is the online resource for information on classes and workshops in Meditation, Yoga, Tai Chi, Chi Kung and other related subjects. These are run by the Instructor and multi media Artist John Scott Petty. Here you will find details of the syllabus and instruction, and general class information. Also included are details of his new beautiful self produced films on various facets of the subjects he teaches. You can also access the 'Vital Arts Shop' which sells a number of different aspects of his studios output and to view John stunning Artwork including Paintings, Sculptures and Photographs please see 'VAS Originals'. See 'VAS Originals'  and 'VAS Productions' for his Art work and Film inspired by these disciplines. Go to the VAS Directory to explore this site in its entirety}.

Can I learn Martial Arts any other way?

Yes we sell many VAS DVDs where you can learn many of the martial art we teach. Go to our 'VAS Shop' to see our growing selection of 'VAS DVDs'. You can also learn more about our DVDs at our 'VAS Production' site. Alternatively go to the websites of the Teachers listed at the 'Contacts' section.

As with all the chapters of the 'Vital Arts Studio' site the Art work and Design of these pages is entirely by John, it would have been impossible without the generous assistance of John student  Web Master Robert Thompson who originally instigated, constructed and managed the older version of this site.

The new site has been created by Web Master Matthew Reap of {www.nwmedia.co.uk}.
